See what our students have learned and experienced in our curly hair courses
I recently completed CA’s Curl Academy, and it truly exceeded my expectations for online education. The focus on natural curls and inclusivity made the virtual experience incredibly welcoming. I come from little to no background on textured hair as it was never focused on during my early education years at the beginning of my hair school journey; which was not long ago I might add. I now have a new appreciation for naturally textured hair and the delicate approach it takes to achieve each look your client wants/has. The educators were knowledgeable and passionate about teaching the importance of embracing natural hair in each of the different texture categories. They provided engaging demonstrations and personalized tips, which helped me understand how to care for and style curls better from the comfort of my home for my clients. I left feeling empowered and educated, ready to embrace natural hair with confidence. I highly recommend The Curl Ambassadors Curl Academy to anyone looking to learn more about curly hair in a supportive online environment!

From my experience with taking the Curl Academy, I got the tools I needed to identify different curl types and to acknowledge the different textures on a single head of hair. With the Dry-Cut Curly method, cutting curls dry to ensure that I never cut too much by seeing how each curl is going to bounce up and create a beautiful curly shape for each client. The manual is easy to follow and guided me through my cuts as a template while I was learning to customize for each client.

I’ve been going to the Curl Ambassadors for my haircuts and my curls have been popping ever since. For one, they do the curly cut, so they know how to do all the things, but they also give me a lot of tips specific to my hair texture.

Behind every woman with long hair is a girl whose parents cut her hair too short. After decades of trying to tame these Jewish curls, I’ve discovered that the secret recipe is @curlshoppe’s butter-styling gel and a curly girl cut from @thecurlambassadors.

So impressed with how refreshed my curls are now. The Curl Ambassadors brought my hair back to life. I got the definition I needed. I literally got a spa treatment for my curls. Thank you, Alessia and Toni.

Referring to the Dry-Cut Curly, I've learned that cutting the hair dry first is very important for textured hair clients because it allows us to base our cut depending on guests' curl types. Based on my experience in other salons specializing in straight hair where we cut hair wet, I now see a big difference in the final result when cutting hair dry. Since the majority of guests have 2-5 different curl types, I have taken away that I can now personalize services to each client depending on their hair types. Another benefit I've taken away is that when cutting hair dry and have finished styling curly, we can ensure that I don't cut any more than is necessary. That was my number one takeaway from completing this course.

The Academy has greatly enhanced my knowledge and confidence as a stylist. Through comprehensive workbooks on all hair textures, hands-on practice with mannequins (once I completed the course), and expert guidance throughout the modules, I developed a deep understanding of textured hair, dry cutting and style. Working with real clients allowed me to apply what I learned, reinforcing my skills and boosting my confidence in educating clients. The step-by-step approach to techniques like the Curly-Doo and Dry-Cut Curly has helped me assess hair porosity, shape, and length with precision while selecting the right products for each curl type. I truly appreciate the knowledge of the instructors' expertise and willingness to answer all my questions via email/zoom call. Hearing positive client feedback, especially their satisfaction with “not too much getting taken off” reassured me that I had mastered cutting all curl types with confidence. This experience made the Academy invaluable to my growth as a stylist.

Coming from a “wet cut only education” I found that the Dry-Cut Curly Method is much better when helping people achieve their goal silhouette. Along with teaching me how to be extra gentle with my tension with dry cutting. I'm able to perverse more length this way. I was thoroughly informed on the best ways to approach each curl type and the techniques that give longevity for the style and health of the hair. The Curly-Doo training is perfect to go back to as it simplifies the ways to do every curl type. This is something I can keep going back to if I ever want a refresh. The 10 stages of Dry-Cut Curly is a perfect technique approach for each curl type in order to ensure shape and length to each client's desired goal !!!!!

Learning the Curly-Doo and Dry-Cut Curly with the Curl Academy has taught me to listen to the curl. The porosity of the hair matters a lot as the amount of hydration and moisture locked into the curl can determine how bouncy that curl will come out. Which plays a huge role when it comes to shaping/cutting textured hair. If that curl has a good bounce to it, you want to take smaller pieces when cutting as it does equal to a few inches. A clear understanding of porosity and elasticity really can be the key to a successful cut and style, which I learned throughout the modules.. With the Curl Academy I found it shines light on the importance of that knowledge and how to tell what the curl does and want to do.

The most helpful part of learning the Curly-Doo and Dry-Cut Curly techniques was the clear, structured stages that were provided throughout the video Modules and Workbook. Breaking down each step made it easy to understand how to work with natural curl patterns effectively. The detailed guidance on sectioning, shaping, and cutting curly hair in their natural state helped me build confidence in achieving a well-balanced, customized look. Additionally, learning how to enhance definition and volume while maintaining the integrity of the curls pattern was invaluable. The step-by-step approach made the learning experience smooth and practical for real-world application.

The Curl Academy is an amazing course. I took it right after I graduated hair school and it completely changed how I approached doing curly hair. The detailed workbook has all the curl types and breaks down how each curl type had to be cared for and cut differently . Which I thought wasn't an option, in school I had next to no information on anything about cutting curly hair, or even styling. I really enjoyed that the course didn't just throw you in, you got to really know the basics for styling curly hair and seeing which types of products work for each curl type. It’s wild to see how much water curly hair needs, it’s such a plant. As a curly girly myself I used to spend hours watching YouTube videos and TikTok which were overwhelming because there were so many steps cut out. Nothing I did even compared to how their curls in the videos came out, but learning how to take care of my hair through the Curl Academy, I was able to have more confidence to guide and help my curly haired clients which is always the best feeling 😊 especially considering we have been burned by this industry in so many ways and have so many stories of our hair being cut WAY TO SHORT. I love being able to help break the cycle 💖💖💖💖 and having more stylist and salons being able to learn more and making the space safe for all hair types 😊
